Transferring a domain to us

We can take over an existing domain and manage it for you. The exact procedure depends on the type of domain.

Note that some ISPs charge a release fee, and will not change the IPSTAG until this is paid. There is nothing we can do about this.

  1. The existing ISP must change the IPSTAG to CROSBY - this should take them only seconds to do.
  2. You/they notify us when the change is done
  3. We will set up your new DNS and change the registration details to point to our DNS servers
  4. Your existing ISP will stop providing DNS services. They may wish to overlap for a few days to allow DNS caches to catch up.
  5. Services that we are also taking over can be stopped by your existing ISP. Again, a few days of overlap is helpful. You should continue to check any POP3 mailboxes you have with your existing ISP for a few days.

The existing ISP may not be familiar with this procedure, and this can cause delays. They will probably be expecting the transfer to take place via Network Solutions. This is no longer necessary, and we do not use Network Solutions as a registrar, we use PairNIC

  1. We will initiate a registrar transfer
  2. The existing ISP will receive an email from PairNIC asking for a faxed authorization letter and appropriate proofs of identity of the owner of the domain
  3. The existing ISP must forward this email to you as the owner of the domain or can reply if they have your authority. You may have to nag them, they may deny receiving it even.
  4. Once you have this, you print, sign and fax with company letterhead or other proofs as per the instructions on the email.
  5. The existing registrar may also ask your ISP to confirm the transfer.
  6. After a few days the registrar transfer is complete and the existing ISP will lose control of the domain.
  7. Your existing ISP will stop providing DNS services. They may wish to overlap for a few days to allow DNS caches to catch up.
  8. Services that we are also taking over can be stopped by your existing ISP. Again, a few days of overlap is helpful. You should continue to check any POP3 mailboxes you have with your existing ISP for a few days.

Transferring a domain to another ISP

If you wish to have another ISP manage your domain, we can transfer the domain to them. Again, the procedure depends on the domain.
Once the domain is moved, you need to let us know what services you no longer require and when you wish them to be ceased.
Note that the control of the DNS does not mean that all services have to change to a new ISP. Similarly, moving services to another ISP such as web space, email, etc, does not mean they you have to move control of the domain. As we have prices for each distinct service, we are happy to mix and match.

We make no charge for releasing domains or ceasing services, but advance annual payments are not refunded - so it is best to request the move/cease before your annual renewal invoice is issued if you wish to avoid this charge. We do normally email a reminder one month in advance of the invoice, but your are responsible for letting us know if you wish to cease any of our ongoing services and ensuring you do so before renewal invoices are raised.

You simply need to provide us with the IPSTAG of the new ISP and we can transfer the control of the domain.

com/net/org domains

Domains which we have moved to the registrar, are simply controlled through a web interface. Advise us of the email address of the new person controlling the domain and we will email them the necessary login and password to control the domain
