Green Power Hailed A Big Success!
 One
year today, Crosby committed to the install of a green power
generating system for its state of the art data centre in Southport,
UK.
Today it was announced that the installation has proven to
be a great success with much less energy being consumed in its
data centre, but actual production raised by 50%.
Matt Wilson Explains, “Over the past year, we’ve
been installing and trailing several Green technologies, from
solar power generation, wind turbine and fuel cell technologies”
“The technology has been in operation for over 9 months,
and consists of a combined fuel cell, wind and solar power system,
generating now, over 65% of our power requirements. Our recent
technology refresh has also resulted in a drop in actual power
consumption, meaning we burn less to achieve the same. What’s
more, during off-peak times, we are now over-generating and
selling electricity back to the national grid, of which is making
us not only a huge saving on our energy costs, but delivering
a small profit afterwards.”
“The project was not just intended for financial savings,
we’ve been committed to bringing down our heat output,
waste output and electricity consumption to help with the current
climate changes we are facing. We believe if at least we set
an example in our industry, others will follow suit and promote
the installation of such system, which at the end of the day,
pay for themselves in a reasonable amount of time”
“It seems we are the first data centre in the UK who
has embarked on such a project, of which is very simple to do.
We have replaced our roof tiles with solar panels (that look
the same as tiles), we have mounted a small windmill at 5 meters
and installed a fuel cell system that generates power from splitting
hydrogen that produces electricity and operates the heat pump
in our air conditioning.”
