Our new £1.5m data centre building demonstrates Crosby's continuing commitment to the region's technological development. The building has been heralded as "a flagship example" of the way forward for local prosperity and its completion consolidates Crosby position as one of Britain's leading providers of business-critical communications.
Crosby have built one of the most technological advanced data centres of its kind in the UK from the ground upwards.
Broadcasting House is an old farm house located in a large piece of land on the doorstep of a BT exchange and along the path of a fibre optic network. We purchased the building in December 2002 and renovated the entire building and the surrounding land with a total investment of 1.1 million pounds to house the ever expanding infrastructure that was operated from several locations, all of which we had overstayed our welcome on. There is a ever increasing need to find a home for our infrastructure all within the same place and to future proof our business going forward.
Building Blocks
The external brickwork was left in place to preserve the character of the traditional farm house look, however inside the building was comletely ripped out completely to leave just a basic "4 walls" shell. We built 25 inch walls constructed of reinforced concrete around the inside of the building along with wrought iron security which bonds the brickwork together to create a solid cavity between the inside and out. All first floor windows are triple glazed security glass with reinforced steel bars covering the windows with shock and break glass detectors on the inside of the windows.
Electricity Supplies
We commissioned the local electricity suppler to install redundant supplies feed from two separate sub stations on the national grid. These 3 phase supplies were then fed into a brand new 100KW diesel Generator cable of powering upto 5 times the projected total load of the building for upto 3 days at 24hr usage. A third gas turbine generator has been provisioned for in case of emergency such as a fuel shortage although a significant amount of fuel has been stockpiled for the future.
Telecom Supplies
We have installed duel "sonnet ring" fibre optics that are fed from both Leeds and Bristol telephone exchanges and backed up by a copper line installation for extra redundancy.
Air Conditioning
We installed a duel air conditioning system fitted with heat pumps to chill both our common area and communication rooms and keep the temperature at a constant 21 degrees for the computers. The air conditioning is also directly connected to the generator so that in the event of a power failure, the room will keep the computers cool.
Antenna Masts
We;ve installed a large 40ft antenna mast capable of large loads and linked to the buildings earthling systems. On this mast we have a lot of technology, from GPS Satellite Time Heads, Point to Point Microwave Links, Weather Satellite dishes, to Digital Audio Broadcasting, Freeview and FM Radio reception antenna.
Security
Biometric scanning security prior to entry of main rooms has been installed to prevent access from unauthorised individuals. This is linked into our building management system for extra security and monitoring.
Recording Studio
With fully automated Digital Mixing the studio provides all the tools you need to produce Professional Quality Recordings. Featuring 64 track recording & Apple Mac sequencing, Midi sound modules, digital + analogue effects & dynamic processing as well as valve vocal & instrument processing.

With multi format output to CD or D.A.T. all media requirements can be produced. The separate Vocal Booth features Neumann miking to get the best recordings of the vocal performance.
